Usually, dogs wear harnesses calmly and without training. But it doesn’t always work that way. Some dogs may become fearful of the tack and then avoid going on walks.
To avoid this, spend a couple of days adapting to the harness and have fun.
Step 1. Looked – ate
Form a positive association in your dog with the type of harness. They took out the harness and gave out a tasty treat. Repeat 5 times at intervals of half an hour. Then finish the exercise.
Step 2. Click and eat
If you’re not used to it, the sound of the faster fastener can frighten dogs. Train yourself to get used to it.
Fasten the fastex, holding the harness in your hands, and immediately give out the tasty treat. Repeat 5 times. After the break, do a few more sets. The dog will be convinced that the click is good!
Step 3. Putting the Head in the Ring
The thing that usually confuses dogs the most is putting their head through the harness. It’s better to take your time at this step and secure it with a couple of stitches at intervals of half an hour.
Sit on the floor so you are not hovering over the dog. Hold the neck ring with one hand. With your other hand, invite your dog to stick his nose inside for the treat. Each time you do it, ask your dog to stick his head in further.
Step 4. Put it on and take it off
While sitting on the floor, ask the dog to stick its head into the ring. Give out some tasty treats such as braided bully sticks and pork pizzles. Then slowly fasten the fastex and dispense the goodies after clicking. Unfasten and remove the harness.
After a break, try again. And so there are several approaches.
Step 5. Fashion show at home
Put on the harness as in the previous step and do something pleasant with the dog for a minute or two. Then remove the harness. Do 5 more approaches with breaks, gradually increasing your time in the harness to 15 minutes.
Hooray! You can wear the harness for walks!
